We are new to the area and would like any advice on best place to go for a week in July. We were looking at Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll, or Topsail. We want to be on or close to beach but also able to walk around town and see things. We also do not want a very "tourist" area. Any other ideas welcomed~

I love Emerald Isle which is off of Atlantic Beach! It's got that small beach community feel and pretty beaches and lots of "real" seafood! Have fun!

Smile I will second the nomination of Emerald Isle

Here is my travel guide for the area (http://coastalnc.org/emeraldislenctravelguidecd - broken link) and a link to a post on a nice July beach day with pictures.

I vote for Topsail Island. My wife and I have been down the past two summers along with our adult children. We all enjoyed it (except for a really bad T storm the first night of our second summer). We'll be back!

I would count a thunderstorm at the beach as a great plus! Only if you are inside, of course! Way better than fireworks! Topsail Island is great - especially Topsail Beach or Surf City....

How about this for secluded. This picture was taken July 4, 2007 around Atlantic Beach/Pine Knoll Shores. The family and I had a magnificent time!

Crowded Beach? Not Here

Let me know if I can help!
