Just idle curiosity but I've come down with a bad sore throat and wondered if anyone else in Eastern NC (Carteret County) is suffering with the same?

Any cures that work for you? I've tried salt water gargles, hot water with honey and lemon and zinc lozenges...all help some--except at night when I'm trying to sleep.

So sorry you're feeling poorly. I rarely get sore throats but both teen daughters get them A LOT! Sometimes they will go away on their own but usually they need to get a Z-pack from the Doctor. Sore throats do seem to be a very common occurance for the Pamlico Co.area so probably for Beaufort as well.

My hubby had something like that - started with a really, really bad sore throat and it ended up being a pretty nasty virus of some sort....he went and had tests for strep but it wasn't strep, and it also tested negative for the flu....but it sure seemed like flu....lasted about two weeks. Supposedly, there was something on WECT TV here in Wilmington - they called it an outbreak and also the doctors have given it the lovely name of "Carolina Crud" It has been all over in Wilmington, Hampstead and Sneads Ferry...so guess it has come your way...Hope you feel better soon!

May be post-nasal drainage from allergies - welcome to the south. You can try over-the-counter antihistamines (drowsy and/or dry out too much) or decongestants (jittery) as well as a sinus wash-out using a Neti pot or the like. As in any situation, follow your HCP advice and be careful mixing OTC and Rx medicines without first checking with him/her. Azithromycin (in a Z-pak) is ONLY for bacterial infections, not for a viral or irritant sore throat.

For me, it was the so-called "Carolina Crud", which is a virus - not allergies.

I've had it for about 2 and a half weeks now. It isn't severe, but there's nothing you can do about it - just treat the symptoms.

I've given it to a few people already

Thanks! I watched the video about Carolina Crud and that sounds just like what I have. Don't think it's allergies--been here 5 years and never got them before--even when all the pine trees send forth their yellow dusting of pollen.

Okay, it's a comfort to know that it's likely not strep throat and will continue with the hot tea with honey and lemon, vitamin C and maybe make a big pot of that magical medicine, chicken soup--everything else hurts to swallow....

Funny thing is, I feel perfectly fine except for the lumpy razor blade feeling in my throat..'course, this is just day two...

P.S. Please everyone, wash your hands after being in public places right about now--I usually wash real well after the gym and use a hand sanitizer--but last Friday, I didn't, in my rush to get to a meeting--and voila...Carolina Crud!

yeah, the funny thing is how certain everybody is that they have it when they hear the name "Carolina Crud".
