Thinking of moving to NC- maybe Wilmington? (spring break, apartment)

Hello all~

I've read severa post with people asking questions about moving to North Carolina and I am going to jump on the bandwagon. I am currently living in Boston. I was just laid off and just an awful year made worse by the never ending winter.

I was hoping for some insight into how plausable it it for a single 26 year old woman to start and main a life here. How is the public transit system? What is the feel? The impact of spring breakers? Typical rent for a one bedroom or studio?

Any feedback at all would be so appreciated!

Public transit isn't too popular. There's a bus service, but everyone seems to complain about it. Downtown is walkable, some areas of town are bikeable. Spring Breakers don't matter so much, it is more that there's a lot of tourists from May-September. You can get a 1br apartment in a vinyl village somewhere for $500/month. Something at the beach, or in a good area of downtown for $700-800/month.

Wilmiington has a University so you can find a room mate. Expect about 600/mo without a room mate and that is about as low as it gets. Look at craigs list for this area for possible roommates.

Wilmington has a high cost of living for NC. I don't know how it compares to Boston.
