I currently live in Chesapeake, Va and always have, but due to the hugh price increases on homes, need a new area to call home. Husband works in Portsmouth, Va so we want to be close. Does anyone know anything about Wharfs Landing or Camden Plantations in South mills? How are the schools? I know I can always do shopping in Chesapeake but is there anything else out there? I have a 2 and a 4 yr old. Are there any preschools or daycares in Camden? Curios about these new developements, but they seemed to have stalled on building what was originally planned according to their websites.

We live in Camden. Moved here from Michigan last Summer. It is fine doesn't fit me but we have had no crime issues. I have seen several Day cares in Camden as well as Elizabeth City where there are some stores with Walmart being the biggest. My husband works in Cheasapake and I would rather live in Virginia but rent seems more there. He has sometimes an hour drive depending on the traffic. Where we live many of the homes are rentals. I really don't know aboyt the areas you are speaking of. I have 4 kids and I homeschool two I really wasan't that impressed with the schools. They do have a high grade mark for schools. I have a High Schooler. In general I think the area is over priced for where you are living.

Do a search from this forum's page, put the word "Camden" in the rectangle, and several threads should come up that talk about Camden and the surrounding county. Also look into Elizabeth City, right across the river, small town but rather bigger than Camden, has both historic homes and suburb developments. It's about an hour's drive from the Norfolk area.

im from the area was raised here and went to school here from gradeschool to high and left for the first time to attend college (at ecu) the school systems are great some of the top in the state they have great college prep or career prep pathways. yeah, there isnt much to do in the area, its very rural, but I appreciate that. the only crime is speeding or kids skateboarding where they are not supposed to. it is bit of a commute to va but the parks (and small commute to the OBX) are totally worth it. i rec. the area as long as you have work before you move, there isnt much of anything around these parts because its so undeveloped
