It gave me a laugh because before it was demolished, that whole property housed another enclosed mall called Carolina East Mall. I just thought it was funny that no one ever thought to take down the signs.

It doesn't have anything to do with Greenville Mall...

And their plans are to build another mall which is why the signs are still there. They're still building malls, just not enclosed malls. Ultimately that whole field will be parking lots and stores. They just won't be under one roof. The last time I checked they had sold another parcel which means someone intends to build there.

But the name isn't "Carolina East Mall" it's "11 Galleria" and the signage out on the main road is correct.

Wow I am sorry I posted it... it was supposed to be a joke... calm down.

I have no experience with construction, but it seems like it would be much quicker to demolish everything and start new. I know Scott hall kept the frame of the building and rebuilt everything else. I assume the same will be done with Belk.

I believe that I heard it's much cheaper to rebuild the dorms using the old frame because you don't need to pour new foundations, construct brand new supports etc. which probably does cut down on the construction time as well. Plus ECU might not be able to rebuild all of them at once if they were all brand new buildings.

Belk is going to be completely demolished and will be replaced by Gateway East and West that will serve as a new gateway to College Hill. Belk Building 2014
