I guess that ends the thought of that building getting razed for something better/bigger.

It's not too bad as long as they modernize the building a bit. It looks like a 1975 timewarp as it is.

It'll be good to have more workers downtown.

Also - there is finally a sign up on the old gas station across the street showing the new student housing complex coming. I was wondering how much longer until that project will start. I guess they have to move the frat house before they can begin...and possibly wait out the lease agreements on the calzone place?

Raisin' Cane's!!! Best chicken fingers ever! Had them all over Louisiana when I was stationed there. Blows Zaxby's out of the water.

Investing $1.1 million in that block for 129 jobs is a nice get for downtown. That's a big solid building there. The other buildings fronting the Town Common are better tear down prospects.

I'm sure they looked at the tear down option and there just wasn't the market for enough offices to justify the cost.

It's on Arlington at the end of the long row of brick office buildings. Closest to Firetower.

This is a huge upgrade as their current office is not a very large building.

Gotta love this gem in the comments section:

Quote:
Typical NCDOT: when cities around the country (including Boston, Seattle, and Syracuse) are *getting rid* of the big downtown expressways that destroyed street-level life and made their downtowns economically unproductive, Greenville is doubling down and failing to learn from their mistakes. It's too late to do anything about this project. But let's make sure this doesn't happen again.
What?!?!? Is this guy high or something? No one is advocating for an interstate to run right through the middle of Greenville. This road is needed and makes complete sense to connect the hospital and ECU and downtown.
