Honestly, I don't think the interstate needs approval from the Raleigh City Council. As long as Wake, Nash, Wilson, Greene and Pitt Counties and the towns and cities along US-264 support the upgrade, along with support from the state level, I think it'll be just a matter of time before Greenville will have interstate access to I-95 and the Triangle.

Upgrading US-264 is easily feasible since all it would take is widening the outside shoulders to 10ft. wide. US-264 is already interstate standard between I-95 and the Wilson/Greene County line, and part of it in Wilson is co-signed with I-795. The North-South route from Bethel to Kinston is a different story...

Looks like you might get to see some entertainment after all. There are potential projects in NCDOT's preliminary 2018-2027 STIP that would upgrade US-264 to interstate standards from the Wilson/Greene County line to the US-264 Bypass/Stantonsburg Road junction in western Greenville and also upgrade US-13/NC-11 from the US-264 Bypass junction north of Greenville to US-64/Future I-87 near Bethel, so it's definitely on NCDOT's radar. You might wanna get your popcorn ready just in case...

Had heard that Lidl opened a distribution facility in Burlington and is going to rapidly expand across NC. Besides the Rocky Mount store, a store in Wilmington is also in the works. They are supposed to be an Aldi competitor.

Good location, IMO for this...with the continued Bells Fork development and traffic, it really shows the need for the Firetower/Portertown widening past Charles.

Along with that, they want to upgrade 264 from Arterial to Freeway/Expressway, between Greenville and Washington.
