Didn't know that Greenville has a new music store - opened in the Spring, called Boulevard Records. It's on the Boulevard across from the Verizon store near the Rodeway Inn. This Sunday they're hosting a vinyl event at the Masonic Temple at Charles and Charles (ironically adjacent to where East Coast Music used to be).

Oh boy...my mother would have a fit. She loooves records. I would tell her about it, but the problem is that I don't have a crowbar to pry her out the store. Decisions, decisions...

This Sunday's event at the Masonic Temple is from 10-5. Just drop her off at 9:55 and pick her up at 5:01. If she needs a break, she can stroll across the lot to get a cup of joe at Buzz and sit a spell.

Seems like the Masonic Temple certainly gets a lot of use lately. It's become the go spot for small conventions and gatherings now. I went to a well attended comic book show there earlier this year. I still think it would be a good idea for someone to find a place uptown to host meetings and small conventions. Maybe partner with the convention center or the convention center takes some stock somewhere in uptown.

Looks like the sidewalk cleaning that was approved at the recent council meeting has started!!

Finally, something the council passed got done quickly!!

Looking at that document can make you think...a couple of observations...

1) Greenville doesnt need more commercial centers, it has plenty, except they need to be fully developed or redeveloped. The Greenville Mall redeveloped into Mixed Use retail, the continued buildout near Memorial/Gville Blvd, Bells Fork is essentially finished, and the new Wal Mart area toward Simpson can be built out. The SW bypass new interchange is too far out for commercial. Winterville has its Memorial Dr. area (btw the CarMax sign is up).

2) However, the area with the most potential in the future for commercial is probably downtown, just with a completely different look and feel to it. With the 10th St connector, Dickinson Ave and Evans St corridor's being redeveloped, it can meet its full potential. Two words...Parking Decks.

3) I know this isn't necessarily the intent of the Horizon's Plan...but there is no way not to notice that Greenville has significant connections to its suburbs. Winterville is essentially part of Greenville now, but there is Interstate quality access to Farmville, Ayden, and with some improvements Washington. Simpson has an adequate road going to it. Only Winterville does not, but at least its on the drawing board. What a major miss by the Transportation folks in the last decade.

4)Please, please, please Pitt County get some planning and zoning...countywide. Designate areas for residential development and areas for preserving farmland. The roads are god awful and people just keep building further out and anywhere.

5)Vanceboro and Hwy 43. What exactly is the plan here? Vanceboro can essentially become a bedroom community in the middle of Greenville, New Bern and Washington however Highway 43 is completely inadequate and unsafe. Is the State going to provide a connector between Greenville and New Bern ever? Residential population will continue to move down the 43 corridor but there is no plan in place...by seemingly...anyone.

These drawings were planned in 1998, It would help a lot to get from Greenville all the way to Atlantic Beach. Really, I think Highway 43 needs widening and nice design I don't want to see an ugly design, There needs to be lighting really.

I don't know what the hell they did with the connector plan, they might of just removed it from the STIP i guess.
