I just returned from Huntersville. I currently live on Long Island and make 65,000 a yr as an RN. I wanted to relocate to the Charlotte region. However when I applied for RN position, in 2 different places, I was told that the salary is 45,000 a year. I was so disappointed. Here I thought this was a cheaper place to live. But it really isn't. the housing and taxes are cheaper but the salaries (at least for an RN) are so much less. Am I missing something? Is it the same in Wilmington? Are the salaries any better? I really love NC. Any advise or input would be appreciated.

You are correct. I got a salary increase when I moved to Florida from NC as an RN, but not much. Another RN I know is from Massachusetts and made a ton of money (around 60,000/year up there). The southern states tend not to be unionized, which seems to make a huge difference. I would move back to NC from Tampa in a minute, however. The quality of life is worth a few dollars less per hour. Your paycut would be quite a bit more significant I'm afraid. Good luck!
