I have been looking forward to the job fair for months now, hoping to get hired and move from Arkansas. They had told me that they were desperate for teachers and it didn't matter that I don't have a teaching license, I could earn one while I teach. And now, the fair is canceled because of budget restraints. Does that mean they are not hiring anymore, or that they just can't afford to host the fair?

The state has ordered all North Carolina public and charter schools to freeze vacant positions, promotions, travel and new purchases as efforts to close budget shortfalls continue.

A memo was sent to the state's 115 public schools and 97 charter schools on April 12th from the state's chief education officer, Bill Harrison, outlining the new spending rules, which officials hope will help save the state $159 million to meet payroll obligations and pay bills.

I guess the state will re-examine the current restrictions soon for the new fiscal year which begins on July 1st.
