If you were moving to Greenville now, would you rent or buy?
I'm curious about if you'd rent or buy if you were moving to Greenville, NC? I liked the Lyndale/Bedford area, but I'm not sure if you can rent a house there? Or if there are similar rental options? I'd like to be no further than 15 mins from ECU Medical School and close to grocery stores, Target etc. Thanks!

I rent for at least a year before I buy. in this market, you don't have to worry about prices going up, and you can explore the area and see what suits you best.

Thanks, that makes sense. Do you know of places where I can look for good rentals? I've looked online and much of it seems student-y.....

I actually live in wilmington. I think your best bet would be to find a realtor that helps with rentals. I know that a lot of rentals there are going to be college kids. if that's not what you are looking for, your best bet would be to get in contact with someone who knows the area well.

OP, I agree that you should rent initially...there's no rush to buy IMO. I assume you want to rent a house, rather than apartment? I live in Greenville, but don't know anyone in the rental business unfortunately.

Thanks for the advice. We would prefer a house. I did a search and it seems that the people who specialize in rentals are more for college kids versus faculty. The regular realtors are all pushing me to buy, so they're not that interested in helping me find a rental. I'll keep looking though.....

Have you checked the Reflector (local newspaper) website? I saw a few (not many) houses available for rent, though I didn't check where they were.

Thanks! I looked a little, but I can't tell what all of the subdivisions are! Maybe I'll try to find a map and sit with it while I look at some of the listings or something. Are there any places which are walking distance of anything? Or is it pretty much a place where I need my car to do anything?

It's pretty car-dependent, especially where most single family homes are. We live a couple of miles outside the city limits, so we have drive everywhere.

BUY. If you aren't wild about the choice, you'll only need to wait 2 years to buy again. I would hate to move twice, unnecesary expense. This is a buyers market. With the 'rebate' for 1st time buyers, that ones a no brainer. If you have owned recently, its still a buyers market. BUY
No, I am not a realtor.
