Possible relocation
There is a possibility that my husband will be transferred to Whiteville in the near future. I have never been there, he has and says if we go in that direction that we will live in Wilmington. Does anyone know how long the actual commute is? and are there any other nice towns with good schools in between?

Used to live on Oak Island, but I can't even think of working in Whiteville and living in Wilmington in the same sentence.
Since traffic is often very slow in Wilmington, it will depend a lot on where you live, but I would thing no better than 45 minutes to over an hour.
Don't do that.

That is what he drives now. He is used to it. He is presently working in a town that and county that we would not live in, so we worked our way out until we found something with the, we'll say, "qualities" that we require, good schools, decent neighborhoods, etc. We are not snotty or fancy, we don't require the very best, as we can't afford that, LOL, but we do have standards. That was why I asked if there was a town in between. Since, I have never been there, I have no idea what I am talking about. I am just going by what my husband told me.

the good thing about that commute would be that there would be zero traffic.

Do you mean zero traffic each way from Whiteville to Wilmington and back? One thing is he has to be at work at 7 and usually doesn't leave until almost 6. That kind of puts him out of most 8-5 traffic.

Leland would be an okay area to live. Its a Wilmington suburb but almost its own little town, not to cheap not to expensive. 15 minute traffic commute to wilmington because of bridges, but not unbearable. If you wanted (very)small, but cute towns outside of wilmington you could do Burgaw or Lake Waccamaw. You could also look into Ogden or Castle Hayne as Wilmington suburbs. If you want the beach, try Wrightsville, Carolina or Kure Beach. Or you could just live in a neighborhood in wilmington itself, around the university is pretty nice (just not too close!), or around Masonboro and greenville loop road are pretty good. If you want a little cheaper look into the Myrtle Grove/Monkey Junction area. Also, Silver Lake, Greenfield Lake, Echo Farms areas are nice. Hope ive helped some!

he would only hit traffic if he was going from whiteville to wilmington for work. if you live in wilmington and work in whiteville, you will not see any traffic.

Thank you both for your suggestions. We are going to take a weekend trip to see the area. We won't know for a couple of months whether we are going there or not. There are several possibilities.
