Was wondering if anyone has any information on how good the community colleges are in this area. I have an 18 year old son who is a marginal high school student and not ready for 4 year school and we are planning to move from Northern NJ to the Southport area (St. James) in a year or so. Thanks - Sherry

they have brunswick county community college, and cape fear community college. I don't suggest any 18 year old living in the southport area unless they like doing nothing except playing golf with 70 year olds. cape fear is a pretty good school, and it feeds into UNCW. he might want to consider living and working down here for 1 year. that would give him a chance to see if he enjoys the area, and he would earn in state tuition. in state tuition here is VERY cheap. it would be a shame to pay out of state rates only to have him find out he doesn't like the area and wanted to leave.
