Default Lake not far from the coast

Looking for a nice, clean and picturesque lake not far from the NC coast. I would like to keep it under 1 hour but not more then 2 hours. Looking for a vacation home and then retire to in the future. Thanks for any info.

what you are going to want then is a home along one of the rivers or creeks (don't let the term "creek" fool you Neuse River is so large that it's "creeks" are larger than most rivers.

The lakes (Catfish, & Great) are in the croatan National forest, so no developments. The closest communities to the lakes are Carolina Pines, Stately Pines, Carolina Colours, & Neuse Harbor.
croatan lakes - Google Maps

If you are just looking for waterfront, it's too numerous to count, but a good starting point would be Brice's Creek, Neuse Harbor, Fairfield Harbour, Carolina Pines. Also on the Back end Beaufort/Carteret County has houses/developments with awesome views of the NC intracoastal waterway down NC hwy 101

Here's a condo in Fairfield for less than 140K

Subdivisions aside, you can drive along riverfront roads and communities(i.e. old cherry point rd in Thurman/James City) and see houses for sale.

Steven McCurdy is on a distinguished road
You may want to look at White Lake over by Elizabethtown....Its has clear water that you can see bottom in most places....it is only 14 feet deep at its deepet point....There is swiming, boating, fishing, camping etc there....it is very picturesque...

Its 2 hrs from Cape Carteret.....Leave Cape Carteret on HWY 24 west, take HWY 53 south out of Jacksonville....and you end up right at the lake.....

Boiling Springs Lake would be ideal for you. There are actually many lakes there, and all unpolluted, and some are stocked for fishing.
Prices will vary, however, now is the best time for Buyers especially if you purchase now for your future.
Approximately 15 to 30 mins to Oak Island, Holden, Ocean Isle beaches.
If you haven't explored this area, come on down. Be happy to help you with any questions you may have.
