i do not like when generalizations are thrown around like that without back up.

I think I might have stated it funny by meshing news stories I have read about rottweilers turning on their owners or their kids out of the blue (no provocation) and one example I had in my mind. I don't mean it's known to happen when the dogs are around 8, I meant it's known to happen, period. 8 has nothing to with it in particular, 8 is about how the dog was in the case I know about, where I know the dog owner who got rid of the Rott. She had the dog since a puppy and it never did anything and one day, it turned on her and started to viciously attack- she beat the dog off with a broom or something and got in the house, and I am not sure if she called a rescue group, animal control, or just had a friend who was willing to take in the dog- I don't know what happened, just that she was afraid the dog would turn o her kids or someone else some time. The dog did not seem to have a temperament change or illness, just came after her. (I know the person now, I did not know her then). I found out in the context of conversation because I know another person who had the SWEETEST dog who lived to old age, and that dog was an absolute baby..I did not even realize it was a Rottweiler. He was an indoor dog, would sit at your feet for hours being petted.
Bit in reading the news over the years, stories would probably show up in Google from various local newspapers all over, I have heard a lot of stories about Rotts (no particular age in general) (and not just Rotts, other breeds as well- the two I fear doing this are Pit Bulls and Rotts, and one other breed I am not fond of because I have been attacked by one, is German Shepard). I would be too worried about it to want one around my kids, even if we adopted it as the youngest puppy possible and raised it with lots of nurturing and love and attention, I would still worry.
Some more breeds that I don't want off leash around my kids- too many to list, because you never know- people should follow leash laws! I love dachshunds, they're precious, but they are snappy...I've had 3, I know. Normally, it's relatively understandable and preventable- they can be snappy to strange kids and people trying to pet them when they have a bone. I will never forget the story, and I am SURE this would be easily findable in Google, of the family dachshund that killed a very young baby by tearing through a playpen. Dogowner should not have thought the baby would be ok unsupervised in a playpen anyway, with a dog around.
Loads of little dogs are snappish..lots of big dogs come after kids...etc
