Default What to do in Williamston NC

I have to be in Williamston for 3 days / 2 nights in last week of June.

I was thinking of taking family with me. Could you please suggest which Beaches will be close by so spouse and two girls can drive up to beach in morning and return by evening ?

Anyone familiar with area could suggest good places to enjoy beaches around that area.

Thanks in advance

I would say the closest beaches would be Nags head and Kill Devil Hills in Dare County, or jump on 17 south and hit Emerald Isle in Carteret county. Both probably about 1.5 hours from williamston roughly. Other than that, I can't think of anything to do in Williamston...lol

What to do in Williamston? One of my favorite things to do is wonder why there's lots of mobil homes from Williamston south but none to the north? There's like no shopping there. It's a 2 hour drive to the OBX, you could do that. There really isn't much there to do and it has to be the largest town in the northeast part of Carolina.

If your spouse takes the kids and drives to the Outer Banks via 264, which is the straightest shot to the closest ocean, it will take them two hours to get there and two back. Just be aware that it's a lot of driving... but it can be done. I think they'd like Nags Head, both the pier and the beach beside it, and also across the street (and a little ways down, need to drive) is Jockey's Ridge National Park, which are some gigantic sanddunes where people hike up them for the view, fly kites, and you can sit on one of the ridges and watch the hanggliders jump off and float around, AND there's a hangglider shop right across the hwy from the sanddunes that have fun T-shirts to buy, you can get to it on foot from the dunes, but then the walk back to the dune parking is far.

The closest and largest town to Williamston is Greenville NC, bigger than W, a straight road about twenty minutes or so, then they go over the bridge into uptown and turn left onto Fifth Street. About fifteen blocks on Fifth is East Carolina University with a pretty campus, pull in at the entrance along there and they can park near the fountain, beautiful grounds. And there's a small park on the river, back about ten blocks. And adjacent to the park is uptown where, about five blocks in, there's a small outdoor pedestrian shopping area. Now, there is a campus pool, MAYbe you can find out in advance if outsiders can get a temporary day pass, and you could arrange that for them. But they should visit Greenville just like going to a big city, that is, paying attention to crime and so forth.
