Hey everyone....I'm moving to Southport from Breckenridge, CO in a few months. Does anyone know of great places to meet people in town? Does the local Chamber of Commerce have get togethers for businesses? I'm not interested in the bar scene but want to get involved in town activities. Any suggestions?

My BIL lives in Rocky Point which is close to Southport. The last time I was down there, we took the ferry to Southport and it was great. From what I saw of the town, I thought it was quaint and inviting. I hope you enjoy your new home. I can't tell you much about the place above that but I definitely think I could live there.

I believe there's an art gallery downtown. And, of course, you could meet people at the beach (Oak Island) or at the waterfront park.

As far as organized get-togethers, I really don't know. Sorry.

I lived in Southport for several years as a child and have visited many times since then. I would love to live there again, but I'm too afraid of hurricanes. :-\

All the best!

Default Info..

My mom and step-dad bought a patio home on Oak Island a couple of years ago as a vacation home and they really love it. When I go to visit, I notice on one of the local channels, they are always showing lots of things going on. My mom even commented on the fact that for such a small place, things are always happening. I don't think you're going to have any problems finding ways to meet people. It seems very friendly and I think if you're open to meeting others and getting out there, the rest just falls into place, you know what I mean?

Also, my step-dad is a photographer in Durham where they currently live and he joined the Chamber of Commerce for the county (Brunswick, I think). I know that he's already been involved with some of their functions. I think you're going to have a great time.

Good luck!
Nicole

The "State Port Pilot" newspaper now has an expanded version for a short time on the web. It is full of info. on groups/clubs/meetings/what to do/classes etc...
Check out the "Portfolio" section along with the rest of the paper. It should give you some ideas. Good Luck with your move.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm looking forward to the ocean instead of snow!
