It was annexed by Carolina Beach in 2000. It was unincorporated prior to that.
It is just a few blocks, I don't even think there's any commercial areas there.

hanby beach was four streets alltogether , wilmington beach was a bigger area.
do you remember the beautiful old mobile homes right on the ocean front? some had the dunes wrapped around them , there is/was a little motel there too , that is the wilmington beach area.
hanby beach had a small grocery store on carolina beach road.
it is now an empty lot.

don't waste your time with wilmington, there are no jobs, way over priced living for no reason, and if you do find a job you will be way under paid. to be blunt this place is where hopes and dreams come to die. because if you get stuck here your lucky if you can skrape up enough money after bills to get out of here.

I've been looking for a job for two years now and I'm still looking for one, and I'm going to night school at CFCC to change job skills, I volunteer to stay active in the job world, so I know what you mean about the lack of jobs in this area, and I agree the pay scale is way below national average too. And added to this mix is an economy that has made a bad situation even worse, we are all hanging on by a thread in one way or another.
I wish you well, it sounds like your going through a tough time too, I always tell myself there is always someone worse off than I am and worse places than Wilmington to live too, in this country and around the world.
Good Luck to you.

The Wilmington Area does sound like a great place to set up....I have also been looking at the Charelston, South Carolina area as well...What do you all think in comparison of the two cities.
Thanks..Cheers

Charleston, SC is beautiful city but it is very expensive. It has a great downtown shopping area and some excellent restaurants. The city has some of the best historic buildings in the country, and the battery area is beautiful. It is extremely hot and humid for at least 4 months of the year, and the beaches are a bit of a drive from the city.
Wilmington is the poor cousin to Charleston, it has some of what Charleston has to offer but its not half as pretty, but it is less expensive and closer to the beach.
If you can't afford Charleston and can't stand the heat, Wilmington is second best, thats why I live here!
