Default Apartments in Wilmington.

I'm going to be in Wilmington next month for a few days. The plan is to check the city out and if my Mom and I like it, we plan on moving. My Mom wants to sell our house up here (in upstate NY) and rent and apartment in Wilmington. Once we get settled I'll be moving out and finding an apartment of my own. But for a while its going to be the two of us looking for a place. I've done some research and found a couple that sound good. But I'd like some opinions on them and/or the areas that they are in. Our top two are:

The Park At Three Oaks (on Amaryllis Dr)
and
Osprey Landing (on Walden Dr)

Can anyone offer and info? We plan on checking them out while we're down there (if we do like the city as much as we think we will).

Me and the husband are planning to move to Wilmington this summer and those are our top two also! We've been to wilmington before and have always loooved it, but never did apartment shopping. We're going next weekend and checking those out with a bunch of others.. i'm picky and don't like old crappy non-renovated/non-updated, un-spacious kind of apartments, i'll let you know what they're like!

Default Apartments in Wilmington

I too am considering a relocation to Wilmington. Any info that you can share would be greatly appreciated. Will wait till the week of Thanksgiving for a visit, less tourist. Any advise/suggestions on Wilmington in general would be great. Thanks.

Hey there! I'm moving to Wilm for grad school and just finished the paperwork for my apartment this past week! There are a lot of options in the area and if you have the time and resources i would HIGHLY suggest actually going to the complexes and checking the apartments out. Apartment finder is a lot of help locating the places, but it's best to actually go to the place and look at the apartments. I looked at a dozen of the complexes and was surprised to find them not like the pictures in the guide!

I was trying to stay closer to campus, but if you don't want to be around a bunch of college kids i'd recommend looking farther out from campus. But really you've got to look at what you want and pick a price range. from there there should be a lot more people able to give you recommendations. There's a difference in the surrounding area and price of the apartments closer to downtown as opposed to the ones further out near porters neck or monkey junction.

Okay, SO, went to Wilmington yesterday for the day.. beautiful day might I add, downtown was hopping, as was the beach.. just beautiful! We visited Osprey Landing, The Reserve at Mayfaire (just for fun even though I knew it would be too expensive for just a 1 BR.. $910 for not too much space!), Forest Hills Apts (knew they'd be crappy but just went anyway since we stumbled upon them), and I think that's it.

So, really I guess it depends where you want to be. Like I said, Forest Hills Apts ..though located in a good neighborhood, the complex itself appeared sketchy, the apartments are old and NOT maintained, their fitness center is like a 4x4 room with old equipment and a TV w/ a crack down the middle.. I think my mouth dropped open uncontrollably when I saw it haha, and that's enough about that. Ghetto.

Osprey Landing is also an old complex, yet totally not like Forest Hills.. they completely maintain Osprey Landing. The grounds are pretty, they have great amenities, and the leasing agent was sooo sweet, friendly, helpful, etc. Nice pool, dog park (rare, so AlWAYS a plus!), good enough gym, and you have greenfield lake right there. I know people say it can be sketchy at night, but it was a beautiful day, tons of people were bike riding, families going for walks, pushing strollers.. it was really nice. So, we looked at a model townhome. I guess when I think townhome, I think you are getting more space than an apartment. I mean, it does have two levels, but the kitchen was galley style and pretty darn small, the ceiling in the dining room was so low I thought I was underwater on a ship or something, the livingroom isn't the most spacious, and some don't come with washer/dryer connections. I also didn't see a storage closet, which apts usually have, so that concerns me.. but I could have just missed it. It was well kept and clean though, the bedrooms were pretty good sizes, and the surroundings/amenities & staff are so nice that you can almost overlook the small townhome. Again.. it really depends on the location you want to be in, we want to be near downtown. SO, all in all, we kinda liked Osprey Landing.. but you will have to see it for yourself!

Avalon Apartments, which are brand new and not far from Osprey, off of Market Street.. are about 2.9 miles from downtown. I love new =] so this place was very nice in my eyes. The surroundings outside the complex don't seem the greatest ever, but the complex is safe and everyone seemed friendly who lived there. Great open kitchen, black appliances, big storage closet off of the patio, spacious rooms/closets, garden tub, basketball courts, a really great fitness center.. everything was really nice. Price wasn't bad either for a 2br. If you sign within 48 hours, you get 2 months rent free which makes for a nice monthly payment.. I think it came to $749.

We ended up finding a rental in a downtown house that we fell in love with and hopefully will be going with that one. If that fell through.. I think we are a bit torn between Osprey Landing & Avalon. Avalon has a great apartment, new, great amenities.. while the Osprey townhome wasn't as spacious but had great amenities and great surroundings (dog park, Greenfield Lake steps away).. so that's what it came down to! And that about sums up our day trip lol.. hope you can see the places for yourselves, I'd love to see what you think as well! Hope I helped a little.. Good luck Coffeebean!! if you have any questions, fire away!

I work at home, no worries mary! I don't know if you meant you should live near wherever you work, or that it's hard to find a job in Wilmington.. but if you meant that you should live where you work, I think even with traffic, nothing is usually more than 20 minutes to get to in Wilmington so I think it may just be better to live in your fav part of Wilmington and travel to work, wherever that may be.
