I see people letting their dogs swim at the Surf City and Topsail Beach beaches (Topsail Island). Technically, you're supposed to have them on a leash but probably could get away with letting them swim a bit without the leash.
We are considering relocating to the Wilmington area, can anyone tell me if the beaches are swimmable. Also, any information on the area would be helpful, we have never been there but will be making a trip there this winter.
The North end of Carolina Beach (10-15 miles South of Wilmington) allows dogs, they also allow camping and driving provided you have 4wd. I think there is a fee if driving onto the beach. We have had our Jack Russells out there. 1 likes to play with the wet sand and water, the other wants nothing to do with the water, but wants to chase the birds. Both love to swim in the pond but not so much the ocean, although they do have a good time. I have yet to take my shepherd. might have to take him after season when its not so busy, he hasn't met a dog he doesn't like, and he's a little intimidating at 80 lbs.
angelagarder.... there are many swimmable beaches in the area. Wrightsville, Carolina, are 2 i go to also there is Wilmington and Kure . These are all within 20 - 30 min. of each other. Going north 20 - 30 min. there is Topsail and Surf City. There is also an aquarium in Kure, the USS Carolina in Wilmington. There is alot in this general area, and IMO winter is a great time to come to check things out.
