I'm a recent NJ>NC transplant and agree with you, living on the ocean is GREAT and crime seems a non-issue on Pleasure Island.

realtor.com allows you to see some rentals on MLS listings.

if a realtor rents an apartment, they get paid one months rent. if they listed the apartment but didn't rent it (or vise versa) the two realtors split the one months rent payment. lots of realtors don't want to waste their time on helping renters (unless it's a quick deal).

I think that Bryant Real Estate had rental listings and when I was looking for homes in the area there was a website wilmingtonrent that had quite a few rentals and you can search by price. I remember there being quite a few on the water way when i searched before.
