We just learned through the county tax records the so called "realtor" Carolyn Glaser is also the owner of the condo we rented at 115 Carolina Ave S, Suite 101 (Boardwalk Condos). When asked yesterday, she said as the realtor, she didn't have the number to contact the HOA and could not do anything. It appears it was all a scam. She asked for us to call her when we arrived, which we did. The tow truck was standing by to steal our car as soon as we went inside to get our parking pass which she said had been placed inside. She, the owner, did not identify herself as such and played as though she was as helpless and surprised as us. ALL DECEIT. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PERSON!!

I just saw this related article today:

TROUBLESHOOTERS: Woman Towed from her Own Apartment Complex | WWAY NewsChannel 3 | Wilmington NC News

I am sorry to hear about people having the inconvenience of being towed...especially when they didn't receive proper notice beforehand.

UPDATE. The owner of the condo, Carolyn Glaser, is working hard to correct the towing policy being enforced by the HOA. She is only 1 or 9 votes and is having difficulty getting things reconciled with the HOA. Carolyn has made things fair to us and I would recommend her condo or services to anyone. As far as Boardwalk Condos go, I would only rent from Carolyn and no one else. Please be advised the predatory towing is still in force. Let this be a public apology to Carolyn for any misrepresentations of her integrity.

She is the owner of the condo, yet she didn't have a number for the HOA and uses her title as "realtor" as an excuse? Whether owner or realtor she should have the contact information, not play helpless. She is "1 of 9 votes" on the HOA?What, is she on the Board of the HOA, and didn't know how to contact them?

Evidently she knows about the towing scams in town, yet she was surprised?

Hmmmm...

N.C. G.S. 20‑219.2. Removal of unauthorized vehicles from private lots.

(a) It shall be unlawful for any person other than the owner or lessee of a privately owned or leased parking space to park a motor or other vehicle in such private parking space without the express permission of the owner or lessee of such space if the private parking lot is clearly designated as such by a sign no smaller than 24 inches by 24 inches prominently displayed at the entrance thereto, displaying the name and phone number of the towing and storage company, and, if individually owned or leased, the parking lot or spaces within the lot are clearly marked by signs setting forth the name of each individual lessee or owner. A vehicle parked in a privately owned parking space in violation of this section may be removed from such space upon the written request of the parking space owner or lessee to a place of storage and the registered owner of such motor vehicle shall become liable for removal and storage charges. Any person who removes a vehicle pursuant to this section shall not be held liable for damages for the removal of the vehicle to the owner, lienholder or other person legally entitled to the possession of the vehicle removed; however, any person who intentionally or negligently damages a vehicle in the removal of such vehicle, or intentionally or negligently inflicts injury upon any person in the removal of such vehicle, may be held liable for damages.

(a1) If any vehicle is removed pursuant to this section and there is a place of storage within 15 miles, the vehicle shall not be transported for storage more than 15 miles from the place of removal. For all other vehicles, the vehicle shall not be transported for storage more than 25 miles from the place of removal.

(a2) Any person who tows or stores a vehicle subject to this section shall inform the owner in writing at the time of retrieval of the vehicle that the owner has the right to pay the amount of the lien asserted, request immediate possession, and contest the lien for towing charges pursuant to the provisions of G.S. 44A‑4.

(a3) Any person who tows or stores a vehicle subject to this section shall not require any person retrieving a vehicle to sign any waiver of rights or other similar document as a condition of the release of the person's vehicle, other than a form acknowledging the release and receipt of the vehicle.

(b) Any person violating any of the provisions of this section shall be guilty of an infraction and upon conviction shall be only penalized not more than one hundred dollars ($100.00) in the discretion of the court.

(c) This section shall apply only to the Counties of Craven, Cumberland, Dare, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Mecklenburg, New Hanover, Orange, Richmond, Robeson, Wake, Wilson and municipalities in those counties, and to the Cities of Durham, Jacksonville, Charlotte and Fayetteville.

(d) The provisions of this section shall not be interpreted to preempt the authority of any county or municipality to enact ordinances regulating towing from private lots, as authorized by general law. (1969, cc. 173, 288; 1971, c. 986; 1973, c. 183; c. 981, s. 1; c. 1330, s. 36; 1975, c. 575; 1979, c. 380; 1979, 2nd Sess., c. 1119; 1981 (Reg. Sess., 1982), c. 1251, s. 3; 1989, c. 417; c. 644, s. 1; 1993, c. 539, s. 383; 1994, Ex. Sess., c. 24, s. 14(c); 2008‑68, s. 1; 2010‑134, s. 1.)

I am sorry this happened to you. We own a towing service. In the parking lot that you parked in ( which you did not explain ) did you live here? Was you visiting here? How long were you there? When you decided to park there, if you did not live there, did you look around to see the sign that is ( or should ) be posted stating if you do not belong there you will be towed?? Those signs, if there was one, is there for a reason. Many people who live at apartments only has 1 or maybe 2 spots to park their personal vehicle. If every tom, dick, and harry goes and parks there, where will the rightful people park?? We ( our company ) is not a predatory company. We have signs posted at apartments, the owner or manager of these apartments keeps an eye out for just such things, and they call us when one needs to be moved. Learn where to park and where not to park and you will not have to worry about your vehicle being towed. If there is a sign posted, usually at the entrance, that means if you park there, you might as well go on to bank and get the money. The sign also will have posted on it how much the fee is and what company has control over that parking lot. In just such cases as far as cash only goes.... I know of no towing service that will accept checks for payment, very easily to call bank once u leave the impound lot to cancel the check. So yes, cash only, and some will even do credit cards or debit cards....

Instead of complaining about what towing services do, and all you people want to stand up for something, why don't you go to Washington and stand up to them about our gas prices getting higher and higher...NOW THERE'S SOMETHING TO STAND UP AGAINST!!!!

Default Keeping the post alive

They prey on people down there in Carolina Beach/Kure and I really want to keep this going.

We parked our car in a spot to check IN to our condo. We were in the office for FIVE minutes. Came out and the car was gone. They HAD to be waiting and watching. It was far too quick. We honestly thought the car had been stolen.

It took 4 hours and a kind gentleman giving us a ride to Earl's to even BEGIN the process of getting our car.

Yep... 130 bucks. Cash money. What a way to start a vacation that we saved all year for.

Our solution? Never again. We are Oak Island lovers from here on.

I sure don't blame you for going somewhere else,
how about sending a letter/email to the Carolina Beach
chamber of commerce or the city council to
voice your displeasure.
would help the rest of us.
