I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR A HOME AROUND WILMINGTON FOR UNDER 300K AND OUT OF 364 HOMES ONLY ONE HAD A POOL AND IT WAS ABOVE GROUND. WHERE I LIVE ON LONG ISLAND(ny) ALMOST EVERY OTHER HOME HAS A POOL AND OUR SEASON IS LESS THAN 60 DAYS. I'M JUST CURIOUS, IS THE WATER REALLY EXPENSIVE, OR THE ELECTRIC? IT SEEMS LIKE NORTH CAROLINA WITH ITS WARMER WEATHER WOULD HAVE POOLS IN EVERY YARD.
WHAT AM I MISSING???
WHY DO SO FEW HOMES HAVE POOLS???
ARE THERE RESTRICTIONS DUE TO WATER SHORTAGES?

If you searched 364 homes in Wilmington, my guess is that quite a few are in a subdivision with a community pool. Most homes don't have a pool in the back yard because Wilmington is a coastal town and most people live here to be close to the ocean. So, we don't put much stock in a pool. Also, inground pools are expensive to install ($30,000+) and they only bring about 25% of that value upon resale. Insurance, liability and maintenance probably contribute to the lack of desire too.

perhaps because wilmington is right next to the ocean???
i have always heard that most people around here might consider a pool a negative when buying and selling a house.

We weren't disputing that. We simply explained why pools aren't very popular in Wilmington.

You can always buy a home and have a pool installed. They aren't expensive to maintain once you get past the initial cost to install one.

thanks, thats what i wanted to know. When i saw none i thought perhaps there was some kind of water restrictions or assumed water prices were outrageous. I'm glad to know we can always add one.

Once again, "this is how it is back in NY." NC is not NY, thank God.

American by birth, Southern by the grace of GOD.

Maybe we are just a lot smarter than to spend the money on a pool for a sixty day season. Yeah, keepin up with the Joneses waste a lot of money.

Hope you enjoy your LI pool for years to come.

can u dig deep enough to have underground pools or is there any xtra installation procedures to go along with installing it onthe nc coast? I know the water table is real high on the Carolina Coast. The reason why you also don't find basements.
