We're a bit inland (Greenville NC) and they hit water digging for our inground pool. No big deal; they had anticipated it. Just meant they had to install a wet well (I think that's what it's called).
Meant to add that I was surprised so few people have pools here, especially if subdivisions that don't have a community pool. Our small subdivision doesn't and we had a pool installed in 2006. I'm guessing it costs us about $100 per month in electricity and chemicals to maintain. Easily worth it considering a 5+ month long season (we were in it late April this year).
Once again, "this is how it is back in NY." NC is not NY, thank God.
American by birth, Southern by the grace of GOD.
Maybe we are just a lot smarter than to spend the money on a pool for a sixty day season. Yeah, keepin up with the Joneses waste a lot of money.
Hope you enjoy your LI pool for years to come.

On Long Island we have beautiful beaches but you pay 15.00 a day for parking so it's not that affordable to go to the beach every warm day. I don;t have an inground pool, thank you, but if i could afford to go to the beach everyday than I'd have enough for an in ground pool, WHICH I DON'T
THANKS FOR BEING SOOO JUDGMENTAL. IT SAYS A LOT ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER, MR. SOUTHERN BY BIRTH
mkozlpn, please turn off your caps, its considered shouting. As said before most people do not have pools because the ocean is nearby and you can go in it 4 to 5 months a year plus they are expensive and labor intensive to keep the water just right.
I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR A HOME AROUND WILMINGTON FOR UNDER 300K AND OUT OF 364 HOMES ONLY ONE HAD A POOL AND IT WAS ABOVE GROUND. WHERE I LIVE ON LONG ISLAND(ny) ALMOST EVERY OTHER HOME HAS A POOL AND OUR SEASON IS LESS THAN 60 DAYS. I'M JUST CURIOUS, IS THE WATER REALLY EXPENSIVE, OR THE ELECTRIC? IT SEEMS LIKE NORTH CAROLINA WITH ITS WARMER WEATHER WOULD HAVE POOLS IN EVERY YARD.
WHAT AM I MISSING???
WHY DO SO FEW HOMES HAVE POOLS???
ARE THERE RESTRICTIONS DUE TO WATER SHORTAGES?
Thats a good question, I live in a neighborhood in Wilmington and of maybe 330+ homes I know of only 1 who has an inground pool. They are the most popular neighbor because of it!
A few reasons I can think of, the cost being one. Water and electricity are very expensive here, to fill the pool would be incredibly expensive as the system here is the more water you use the more you pay for it.
Living coastal shouldn't be a reason not to have a pool as we do have 6 months in the year when you could use a pool, and of 3 of those months I don't get to the beach because of the same reasons you don't go near LI, parking is hard to find at Wrightsville and Carolina Beach and its not cheap.
Could also be the house lots are quite small and so many of those POA boards would probably fight you over installing one, and finally I think the number of poor working stiffs down here couldn't afford one, me included!

It costs me about $100 per month for electric for the pump and chemicals, and I spend about 30 minutes per week in season to maintain it. I don't consider that expensive or labor intensive, but maybe that's just me.
The cost to install is certainly significant...I knew I was throwing that money away when we had our pool installed.

Thanks for your answer. Some people seemed offended that I asked or acted like I'm an idiot that didn't know Wilmington is a coastal area. I really appreciate you enlightening me.

But if you enjoy it, isn't it worth it?
