We have bought land in Carteret County NC and are moveing their soon. Husband is retireing from the Police Force after 30 years on the force. He has a Bachlers Degree in Buiseness Management as well. We have our owne peace of land in Carteret very privet. Are woundering weather to have a house built or buy a Moduler Home to put on the land. Also he plans on getting anouther job and would like in the same type of field he has been in, some type of security type work, just not on a Police Force. Have been a Dective for the last 10 years for the force. He is ready for something new, yet the same, that pays around $40,000 or more a year. We are both very tired of the Cold! Am interested in your sugestions. Also how you feel about Carteret County. We am very much looking foward to the move, I was born in CampLajune and have been back many times and have family liveing in Carteret. And we both love the area!

Whether you have a home built or buy a modular depends first on any restrictions on the land that you have purchased. With it being very private, you probably are in an area where you can do what you want, but you should check.

The next consideration is how much you want to spend in time and money.

Modulars are generally less expensive and quicker. My neighbor works for Handcrafted homes which does off frame modulars, they seem very well built, but I have never lived in one.

The other thought is value when you go to sell your home and your neighborhood's type. It your neighborhood is mostly modulars and manufactured homes, you might not get a return on your investment if you pay more to have a stick built home.

However, if you do not have to worry about neighbors and what they have, in general a stick built home is much easier to sell.

In the right neighborhood a stick built home will likely increase more in value than a modular.

Carteret County is a great place to live. It has the lowest property taxes in North Carolina, great schools, a fantastic climate, and beautiful scenery.

You can read more thoughts on why I love Carteret County at this post and my top ten reasons for living in Carteret County.
