Leland is just outside of Wilmington, literally. It used to be a pretty redneck little town, although there are some NICE neighborhoods there now. If you're looking to live near Wilmington, but not in the city, check out Hampstead or even Burgaw. Best wishes!

markdalton will become famous soon enough
Click on Leland's zipcode, and you will see that there are many sex offenders in the zipcode. They are including the town AND the zipcode, but there alot more people living outside of the town limits of Leland than inside. They use the much smaller town popualtion to come up with the ratio. I've pointed this out to city-data. But I've notice this in other towns too, especially in towns I know well, and they are including the unincorporated and rural areas that happen to share the same zipcode.

Tarheelsurf is an unknown quantity at this point
I think that Leland is a VERY NICE city to live in. Their crime ratio has went down a lot since the last survey. There are a lot of good neighborhoods like Magnolia Greens, Waterford Plantation, Brunswick Forest, Old Towne, Jackeys Creek, Snow Field, and Sandy Creek. If you wanted to live in one of the highest growth percent towns, then this is the city for you.
