I have seasonal affective troubles and need sun. We both from Michigan then moved to Santa Fe, NM for 2 years to get sun and had family there, but not the place or the state for us. But the sun did make a BIG difference to my health.We left NM, back in MI temporarily, and looking for our next destination. I am in human services and my husband building maintenance. We make about 55,000 together. We are thinking about the Corolina's. Would we be able to by a modest home within say a 15 to 20 min drive from the beach? If not where? Modest would be 70,000 to 90,000.
You might be able to get a mobile home in the Wilmington area for that(???) I would suggest maybe area around New Bern, Morehead City. One of the real estate agents up there could probably tell you if you could even find anything for that price range. Sorry
There are some mobile homes in that price range along the Crystal Coast (Swansboro-Beaufort). I also saw some condos around New Bern in that price range, but I'm not a New Bern expert.
Southern Currituck County you will have a hard time finding a mobile home for that amount although prices are coming down all the time. Possible to be 20-30 mins from the beach except on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (unless you leave early in the morning and return home late at night).
I've got a $150000 home with almost 1900 sf, brick, 4 bd, 3 full bath, in Rocky Point (about 20-30 min from Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington)...If you really shop around you may be able to find something less expensive in the Rocky Point area. lytle7706@aol.com

I bought a nice 3 bedroom double-wide for 75,000 in 1998 about 5 miles inland from the beach, near Shallotte. Granted housing prices have gone up since then, but still....
You might want to check out Shallotte and surrounding areas. ( About halfway between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach). You might also luck into a smaller stick-built home in that area. I know someone who has a nice small 2 bedroom stick-built home, that I think he said he could sell for about 80 or 90,000. He bought it about 20 years ago, as a fixer-upper, for about half that, I think. (Sorry, it's not for sale... just an example)
