Masonboro isn't, but is extremely close. I can't tell exactly where Masonboro starts and stops, so the northern extremities may be in the city.
Myrtle Grove and Silver Lake aren't

What I consider the Masonboro area (area around Masonboro Sound Rd. and Masonboro Loop Rd. north of Whiskey Creek -- just inland from Masonboro island) are within the city limits, or if not, the city manager was wrong when he moved there for that reason.

If you give me an address, I'll tell you if its within the city limits. I have no idea where the city manager lives, or why he would need to live within the city limits.
as far as I know, "Masonboro" isn't a well-defined area, with specific boundaries - It is just a general area. From what I can tell, some of it is in the city, and some of it isn't. If he lives north of whiskey creek, he could very well be within the city limits.

Hi-
Can i jump in on this? I am considering relocation from suburb of Baltimore, MD. There are comments about real estate in Wilmington being high dollar, but even a townhouse in my area is $350,000. It seems I can live there for half of that.
Also, since I am COMING from a big city, with very busy roads, high crime, high prices, etc.- won't Wilmington be BETTER?
I was trying to get a feel for the other posts....and that's what I couldn't tell... isn't this all relative? What would be your comments about busy roads and high prices to someone from one of the top 20 most expensive cities?
My last home was average. I could own a new ocean-view home there for what a modest home costs here. ( I am currently selling a 1.5 acre piece of land for $325,000 and the adjoining house and other 1.5 acre property is valued at $485,000. These are crazy prices and people here aren't all rich, this is just what it costs! ) I was actually drawn to Wilmington because of the home prices.
Also, my extended family has lived in Raleigh and also in Johnston County. Some now live in an area called Arapahoe which is by a river of some sort. I admittedly haven't been to Wilmington in years. I had also visited Wrightsville Beach years ago.
I am drawn to the appreciate value of the homes in Wilmington. I have the source from where it was deemed one of the top ten areas to invest in. It rated number 7 with an appreciate rate of 34.5%
Also, I have a 13 year old daughter. So that brings a bunch more questions... schools? safety? ages in various areas?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Masonboro, Monkey Junction, and Myrtle Grove are all pretty much in the same place. They are not towns, they are outside of the city limits but everyone considers them part of Wilmington. They are very nice, much quieter than Wilmington, however, Monkey Junction is in the process of becoming its own little town with a Staples, Petsmart, Home Depot, Walmart and supposdly eventually a Target and a movie theater. That being said, most of the people in these areas are FROM these areas and do not live in Wilmington for a reason. So, if you are from up North, do not expect a warm welcome if you insist that northern culture is better or you sit on your front porch on your cell phone and the entire neighborhood can hear you. However, if you are open to the southern culture, then you can expect a ton of food and visitors when you move in.

One more thing, the schools in that area are the best in Wilmington, the Highschools are Hoggard and Ashley (new), the middle school is Myrtle Grove, and the elementary is Parsely (new). Also, a private school, Cape Fear Academy is right down the street.

I am in Hampstead which is just north of Wilmington and 10 minutes from Topsail Island. This is a great area to invest in that is really growing. Topsail schools are top in the state.

you can expect annexation in the near future for the masonboro, ogden, monkey junction areas...so eventually it will all be Wilmington city limits

Monkey Junction is on Carolina Beach Road heading towards Carolina Beach (approx 10 miles). It is dotted with lots of new development mixed with very old developments. Traffic is morning and afternoon rush hour. Just got a new Home Depot, also have plenty of grocery stores, Walmart super center, Lowes, doctors, dentists, and restaurants.
