Hello All!

I considering taking a job in Wilmington and wanted to get some feedback RE the area. We are coming from North Fulton County in GA and have two kids (6 & 3). How are schools in the area? What are some good residential areas? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks!.

another Georgian!

I came from Cobb Co. myself to Wilmington about 6 months ago for grad school. There are quite a few neighborhoods that have the suburban feel to them, most of these seem to be either in the Monkey Junction area, which is south of town, or to the east of town, towards the beach. There is also Leland, which is across the river to the west, which i believe has a bit cheaper in price houses, but there's more of a commute.

The closer to town you are, the more dangerous it becomes, since you have young children i would avoid living in or near town. I would also avoid areas near the airport, because while they don't have a lot of traffic, it can get noisy because of the flight patterns.

From what i've heard the schools in NC in general aren't all that great, but seeing as i've done no research on it and have no kids of my own attending, I can't really vouch for that information.

Hope this helps!

Default I hae a house available if you want to try it out

Brick rambler located on Oak Island, 25 miles outside of Wilmington, easy drive. Sits in the middle of three wooded lots, 2 bedrooms, office, enclosed Florida room, cathedral ceilings with wood beams, brick full wall fireplace, 2 baths and private driveway. New burber carpet throughout house, central air, wi-fi. House built in 1976 and never been damaged by any bad weather. Nice neighbors and huge yard. House is in perfect condition and I can't move down so am willing to rent or sell. One level house so no major stairs, laundry off office area, also has carport. Quiet neighborhood, 4 blocks from ocean and 4 blocks from
Cape Fear River. I'd live here instead of in Wilmington but I don't know much about schools. I can put you in touch with someone who does if you are interested.
