Hi, I am looking to branch out this summer and visit new parts of the area and thought this thread might be beneficial to all.

We normally go to Va Beach or the OBX and I have been to Atlantic Beach.

Are there beaches near Washington, New Bern, etc. in that area that people would recommend?

And, does anyone know of nice trails to go bike riding in the area?

And, cool places to go hiking, etc. for day trips?

Thanks for your suggestions!

Cliffs of the Neuse, Island Creek Walk, Flanners Beach, Uhwarrie trail, Neusiok trail, and the NC Estuary. I'll throw in Lake Mattamuskeet, though I've only been in the winter for the swans. Links below are in no particular order.
Edit: forgot Goose Creek in little Washington.
My best advise is just turn down a dirt road. Growing up in East NC I've found so many trails and watering holes just by literally going off the beaten path. It seems every dirt road in East NC will bring you to a creek, river, lake or pond.

Cliffs of the Neuse is outside of Goldsboro. Uwharrie is in Uwharrie out west, but not too far. Flanners Beack is off 70 between New Bern and Havelock by the ranger station. Island Creek is off the Jones County/Pollocksville part of Brice's Creek rd. Neusiok is off 101 past Havelock. NC Estuary and Goose Creek is in little Washington.

If you like the Outer Banks, I suggest driving to any of the 4wd paths on Hatteras Island and drive away from whatever town your close to. The beaches are around 70miles long. I would say only 10-15 miles have people on it. You gotta have 4wd, but it's great
