I'm a 25+ year local in Corolla...I hope this helps!
1.Restaurants:
Route 12 AND North Banks Seafood are both in TimBuckII Shopping Village are great for lunch or dinner and family friendly. Flying Dutchman is terrific, too--in the Ocean Centre at the Currituck Club. We've got some great Coffee Places for breakfast or Lighthouse Breakfast & Burger is in TimBuckII as well. GREAT BBQ place, Village BBQ in Corolla Village next to the lighthouse and for a special evening out, the Blue Point in Duck is AMAZING! All of the restaurants serve a variety of food, for seafood lovers and other lovers as well.
2. Places & Exploring--Historic Corolla Village is great, even for kids. You should climb the lighthouse

http://www.whaleheadclub.org/ right next door to the lighhouse. The area is pretty dog firendly, as well. The Whalehead Club has a large park like area with picnic tables. Also, there's the Corolla Wild Horse Museum

and on Tuesdays, the kids can't paint their own wild horse cutouts--very cool! Be sure to take a Wild Horse Tour--there are several terrific guided tours available or if you have a 4WD, you can go exploring on your own.

Be sure to stop at the Currituck Outer Banks Visitor's Center (don't go to the Dare County Center--it won't have any info. on Corolla) on the way into town. Check out their website

There's also a TON of shopping and a 4 plex movie theater. Don't burn a hole in your credit card! LOL
4. Day Trip: Wright Brother's National Memorial is a must in Kill Devil Hills and follow it up with a trip to Manteo to see Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, the NC Aqaurium and/or the Elizabehan Gardens. If you have time, get tickets for The Lost Colony production on the Waterfront....great fun for the whole family. Have lunch or dinner at Basnight's Lone Cedar Restaurant on the Causeway into Manteo for some local vittles.
