Found an item for 9.95 and sold it on ebay for 450.00 with 50+ bidders. Someone else had it in their cart and as I was watching them and thought seconds late, darn. They put it back on the shelf and it was mine.

Gee whiz - what was it? Yeah, I've been known to stalk people too hoping they'll put it back on the shelf.

A sterling silver Tiffany Infinity necklace for $8 at a Boston Goodwill store. A sterling silver Tiffany Open Heart necklace for $5 at a Temple rummage sale on the second day.

A sterling stoppered antique decanter with a sterling liquor label for $9.95. The sterling label had hallmarks for London and was made by Hester Bateman's children. The stopper was from a dresser bottle originally. Repoussed decoration and marks for George Shiebler, an American silversmith. The liquor label is worth about $350 to a collector.

An $8 ring at an Arkansas antique mall. It was a diamond and platinum eternity ring. One of the baguette diamonds was missing. Baguette cuts don't sparkle as much as round cuts. A jewelry dealer friend sold it for me for $525.

Found a real Montblanc Fountain pen "Warner Brother Music" special edition in original packaging on the nic-nac shelf at Goodwill for $2, got about $400 for it. It was so shiny it looked fake and they didn't even put it in the display case with all the costume jewelry.

An admittedly battered Robert Glier, Sr. handmade violin: signed, dated 1886, and numbered, for $25.

It was very much worth the cost of repair and restoration, as Glier violins generally are priced in four figures! Mine has an exceptionally sweet, mellow tone, especially when played by musicians with more ability than I possess.

In 1996 in Wisconsin, I was in a thrift store and saw some paintings and sketches that I liked and I bought. the sketch I had gotten for $6.50. I had it on my wall for 7 years until a friend of mine told me to have it appraised. I had it looked up by an art gallery and it turned out to be a Rembrandt sketch worth $9000. lucky me. the sketch is still on my wall in my home.
