I'm not an antique hunter at all, but my brother is, and on rare occasions, I'll tag along with him. The last time I did, about 3 years or more ago, I bought a brand new artist's easel that i spotted; I knew the brand, and knew how much a new one cost.
I got it for $100. At an art supply store, the same easel would have cost $375 on sale. It's a professional locking easel that can support a painting 5' high (or wide). Building one like it would have cost more than I paid.
A very nice, though incomplete set of dishes at Goodwill, but I spend most of my time in thrift stores looking for 1st edition, autographed or very old books. I have amassed quite a collection over the years.
