What is a starting price to ask for, based on the criteria given. I imagine these toys were purchased in the early 90s. I'm 22 now and I was probably like 10 or something when I got these. I don't know who made them or anything like that. Maybe you experts do, and maybe they're not worth as much since they're not from further back into the 80s.

What is like... a round about price I can expect for the nicer ones I mentioned above

I'm sure even the opened items would be worth something on either eBay or Craigslist. There was a pricing book published sometime in the 90s that may give a guideline as to pricing.

Reading this hurts, as someone else posted. All I have left from my original collection is my Yoda action figure. I subsequently bought a ROTJ Luke and a Dark Horse Comics Leia, when she was in touch with the Dark Side.

Oh, and my wife and I have our Master Replica lightsabers.

Do it on ebay in lots. Your dh should know what sets "go" together.

As for starting prices, do a search on current and completed listings... to see what they are offered for now and what they sold for (or didn't sell for) in recent months.

As we grow up, we start to let go of these things. I never thought I'd see the day I'd sell my Dreamsicle collection. But then it occured to me that they hadn't been unpacked for more than 7 years... that was two state-to-state moves ago! My kids took their cue from me and decided to sell some of their toys too. My dh, on the other hand, was forced to get rid of one of the most complete collections of Star Wars toys and memorabilia when he was 12. All he has left are the few items he was able to hide from his dad and stepmom... a few movie stills and a couple figures. Those will be here forever.

Due to his childhood "trauma", he is now a major collector. My son has an amazing Star Wars collection, baseball cards, coins. My daughter has a great Barbie collection (in their orignal boxes of course - my dad and dh always buy her 2 of each) and the dh started collecting Simpson stuff and PEZ when he realized I would tolerate it.

Personally, since 9/11, I have no interest in my old collectibles and have been looking for places to unload them... for a price of course.

There are collectible guides that list retail prices for stars wars figures and other similar collectibles. The big money items are ususally limited edition figures that are still in pristine boxes (yes, damages but unopened boxes are worth significantly less than pristine unopened boxes). I think ebay is your best bet to sell them. You could go to a show or convention, but a dealer would likely offer you a lot less than you could get selling to another collector.

One word of warning: there are likely to be a lot of other collectors selling their collections. In this economy, everyone is looking to free up some cash. Antiques, coins, stamps, baseball cards, and collectibles that have sat untouched for years are starting to hit the secondary market and the glut of items will likely drive the prices down a bit.

I know that this is a fairly old thread, but wanted to comment anyway......

I'm 62 years old and have just started a small Star Wars collection for Christmas. I already had the Triology DVD's and then this past Oct my wife bought me a Darth Vader face mask (Holloween) that talks. I didn't wear it, but it sure looks/sounds cool. We also bought 3 figurines for me for Christmas and three different types of breakfast cereal boxes had Star Wars pics on the back of them. I'm not going to get into this "all the way" and go crazy with money/buying, but there are a few more things I want to get. I will have my own section of spare-bedroom wall for my Star Wars stuff.

BTW, did I say that I'm 62 yrs old?

Cool!

My mother who is about the same age got me started on collecting stuff like Star Wars when I was a kid. Now days she doesn't collect much outside of DVDs and hours spent with the new great grand baby.

Anyhow, I would strongly suggest joining a related collecting forum. This way you can hang out with fellow collectors. I deal more in comics, so I hang out with the Collector's Society...we have a few toy collectors but mostly comics.

My question is what would be the best way of selling them? It looks like there's a ton of stuff on Ebay. Is there somewhere better? Everything is in good condition. Some of the stuff is still in the original boxes, never opened.

Also, do you think it would be better to just sell it all together, or seperately. I don't know what all of the stuff is, but it's all the old-school original Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi stuff. Any suggestions would be great.
When I was 11 I put all my Star Wars, He-Man, Transformers, GI Joe and other 80's era toys in a couple of boxes, told my mom I had decided to grow up and to take them to Goodwill... which she did that same morning with a big smile on her face.

It was the worst decision I ever made.

We had a TON of vintage back in the day, enough to fill 2 24x24x18 boxes. We didn't have alot of ships (Rebel Transport, X-Wing, Y-Wing, B-Wing, Millenium Falcon), several mini rigs, the Rancor, and a ton of figures.

My brother and I went through a year where we fought and both moved out, leaving my Mom alone, and she soon moved to a smaller place.

Guess what got left behind in the midst of everyone moving and arguing?

Yup.

I've regretted that whole period ever since.

Like a dummy, I tried to re-capture my youth and blew a ton of money on AOTC-TSC stuff, and didn't stop until I almost went broke-literally. Now all I have to show for it is about 10 boxes of buyers remorse and a valuable lesson.
