Hello all,

This post is in regards to the following story:
Disney to Acquire Marvel Entertainment | Reuters

Honestly, as a comic book collector/reader I don't feel good about the deal, and I'm not entirely certain why. I guess I'm not thrilled with Disney owning all cartoon characters and the directions they will take... and they just about will (from the Classic Disney characters, to the ones Pixar made popular, to all the super-heroes we've grown to love). I feel like that much hero/character market share is over the top.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

smart move disney must diversify, since they removed family values from the park they are nothing more than a mindless kitty park.

Here's the thing me and a lot of other people would wonder about this... Is what's going to happen with IOA (Islands of Adventure) since they deal with a lot of Marvel characters? Erm... Even though, they're on Universal Studios turf... O.o

That was the first question that popped into my mind as well.

Can you imagine the Incredible Hulk coaster in the magic kingdom?

don't care...marvel isn't marvel....

The golden age of comics is over.

The days of purchasing comic books that "KIDS" can afford is done, done, done, done.....

They have cut themselves at the wrist.

The only people suffering are the kids for missing out on the great generation of comics back in the 60's, 70's, and 80's.

Party's over...been over.

Ugh, All you have to do is look at the kid-ification of some of the marvel titles as it is. They have had the WORST record lately of any brand name for transferring their characters onto daytime cartoons or Saturday Morning.

Yeah, lets take a bloodthirsty loner who is famous for his bloodbaths and turn him into a respected father figure on Saturday Morning!!!!!` What's nexxt, the Punisher reading Mother Goose?

As for teh age of collecting being over, it isn't 100% over, but with so many reprints and collections (and the Ubiquitious "crossover") it has gotten too expensive for a kid to afford to keep up with all the issues and crossthreading. Hell, I did not have enough in COLLEGE! (back when they started going to $150 and above for comics).

Disney taking Marvel is a dissapoinment, for sure. I just hope the execs know enough about brand name that they will try to Touchstone marvel rather than Disnefy it.
