Anybody know about old books? I have a copy of 'A Tale of Two Cities' that looks like it's from 1923, the year it was first published, based on the writing inside the book.

Do people collect stuff like this?

Yes, old books are collectible.
My wife and I picked up a 1890 set of Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain at $5 a book at a recent book store closing.

There are book clubs. I find the internet more useful to determine worth. Sites such as half.com or alibis.com have been useful for buying and selling.

Yes!

I spent years stopping in various shops that I passed looking for it (as did he) and even had a book dealer looking for a copy in good condition for me for the previous year. He called one day and suggested I try this new "World Wide Web" thing (1997) and I found a copy a few hours later!

In other words, yes. Books are collectible. Google yours and you'll most likely find an appropriate value.
