Yes, they are. What does TCU win besides a nice, shiny trophy for winning the Rose Bowl? The right to brag that they're No. 3? Or, No. 2 if the polls deem them worthy? How about Oklahoma? Do you think that beating UConn was really the crowning achievement of their season?

If the games aren't building towards a national championship game, then they are glorified exhibitions. Sorry.

Of course it was.

1st goal is to beat texas. 2nd goal is win the conference (hard to do if you don't beat texas). 3rd goal (crowning achievement) winning your BCS Bowl.

Its that simple.

There is no true National Champion in FBS. There never has been. NCAA has never awarded a National Championship in the FBS (D1A). I guess every college football game all season is just a glorified exihibition, played by a bunch of amateurs. Oh wait....

Am I the only one here that watched Eastern Washingtons thrilling come from behind victory over Delaware last night? Both schools were 12-2 going in. The smaller schools have a playoff system, so why cant the majors? As I commented on in an earlier thread, 35 bowl games with many just average teams saturates the post season and dulls the meaning of most of the games. The smaller schools playoff games were in most ways more interesting than the ho hum games featuring a couple of teams from a major conference that went 7-5 or 6-6 during the regular season. Remain puzzled as to why the small schools make a playoff system work but that the big schools are unable to figure one out.

The 1-AA playoffs don't work from a financial standpoint. It loses a ton of money and leans heavily on the NCAA and the few profitable programs like Montana and App State to keep it going each year. Most schools lose money by advancing in the playoffs.

Not to mention that an entire conference does not participate in the playoff.
