TV numbers are DOWN. There are always enough alumni out there to fill a stadium.
TV ratings are subjective. This was the first year the bowl games were entirely on cable. Last years Rose Bowl was on ABC, this year it was on ESPN. You are not comparing apples to apples.

For a casual fan like me, I'm not going that far out of my way to find a bowl game. I ditched cable, so there's no way I'm going to a sports bar just to watch a meaningless exhibition.

Which is why TV ratings might be down. You are a perfect example. I am sure that there are alot of people that might watch a Bowl Game if it was over the air as opposed to being on Cable TV.
No no ..not that some label meaningless...THEY ARE meaningless. That does not mean you cant enjoy the games but make no mistake ...it is meaningless. It has no bearing on anything other than the game itself it builds toward no goal. Hence an exhibition.
By your logic only the NC game is meaningful.

No!!!If the bowls were used in a playoff they'd all be pointing TOWARD the NC game. All those bowls are just exhibition games.....thats all they are . They have no purpose toward striving to be the best team. I love the bowls..use em for meaningful games...
Some of these comments are getting a tad salty. I'm inclined to close this thread if the tone continues.
