Jim Tressel has resigned from Ohio State after 10 seasons - ESPN

Embattled coach Jim Tressel has resigned from Ohio State.

Tressel

"After meeting with university officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach," Tressel said in a statement Monday morning.
So he talks about his players facing the punishment next year for playing in the bowl game and he resigns so he doesn't have to face his?

You don't think being without a job is enough punishment?

Im still trying to figure out what the problem is... okay a few players sold something they earned and got tatted... He knew about it... so what... no big deal.... its not like players were paid to come to Ohio State... Blown way out of proportion... Pay the freaking players and stop treating them like prostitutes and stop acting like pimps NCAA

Except that Tressel lied to both Ohio State and the NCAA when he stated that he knew of no unreported violations in his annual attestation. His e-mail correspondence with Cicero proves that. This is a classic case of the cover-up being worse than the crime.

I'm as much of a Buckeye fan as anyone, but it's clear that Tressel had to go. Now, the original violation by the players has been blown a bit out of proportion -- at least to the extent the Ohio State haters have tried to equate it with USC (or even SMU, with all the calls for the "death penalty").

Ohio State is a strong program in a talent-rich state and region. It will overcome this.

Tressel surely will be missed by the Ohio State nation. He has done alot for that program. I think he stepped down because he couldn't take the embarassment from this.

Good luck with that thinking. No way Urban Meyer coaches for Ohio St. He can't handle the stress coaching for a big university.

Mod edit-off topic. I am curious to see what Ohio State will get because clearly Trussel knew what was going on.

Ncopus is right. With a heart condition Meyer shouldn't be jumping into anything other than a treadmill machine.

Regarding Tressel, I heard a remark from ESPN's Michael Wilbon on the daily show Pardon The Interruption. He said Tressel has been straddling the line between hyppocritical to flat out dishonesty.

I don't think he's straddling any line. He's been straight up dirty.

And then there is this guy: NCAA looking into Terrelle Pryor's cars at OSU | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

One day after the coach resigns he shows up to a players meeting in a brand new 350Z? It's pretty obvious he wont be putting a tOSU jersey on again. What's this, his eight or ninth car in 3 years? LMAO!!
