Actually it is Univ of TX that has led to the demise of the Big 12. It was furthered by Nebraska and Colorado leaving last year. A & M is only looking to put it out of it's misery.
I'm pretty sure the Aggies will go to the SEC. Many have said if this happens, and the BIG XII folds, Texas will go independent, though there is also rumor that Texas and Notre Dame are in talks about forming their "own conference" with BYU and some other schools. The entire landscape will change quickly if A&M (and another yet to be named ACC school) head to the SEC.
"All but one of the SEC's school presidents will meet Sunday to discuss A&M's admission to the league, The New York Times has reported, citing a high-ranking conference official with first-hand knowledge of the talks."
