I guess I had different take on the question. Having played (on scholarship) many years ago, I would have rather played at a good D3 school. No scholarships, just you and your teamates playing for the love the game with school coming first. My first choice would be to play locally for legendary coach Gagliardi at St. John's (MN). Wisc-Whitewater or Mount Union are tops in that division and would be interesting to play for. Of the D1 schools, I don't know, Maybe Boise St. or Wisconsin.

If i was 18 again... and could go anywhere in the country: I would make my decision based on where the schools were located not the programs cause things can change so I would go where I want to live for 4-5 years. My top choices would be...

1) University of Hawaii
2) University of Southern California
3) University of Miami
4) San Diego State University
5) University of Arizona

If I were going by Programs... The SEC is the only place I would want play.

1) Alabama
2) LSU
3) Georgia
4) Auburn
5) Florida

I'd base it on the female factor, of course:

Texas Tech
Arizona State
Ole Miss

Who am I forgetting?

Stanford - great academics, good weather, Bay Area is great, you'd be a hero for winning a championship

Northwestern - same as Stanford minus the good weather

Vanderbilt - this would be for the chance to be part of a class that built a winning tradition

UVA

Cal

I would add Penn State just to play for Joe Pah. That way, years from now, I could take my 18 year old to meet the 100 and something year old man who is still coaching and get him on the team too....

Seriously I think that UCLA has the best campus, who would not want to play there.
Others I would consider are Florida State (Remember, players make good money there)and many get NFL consideration.
Oklahoma is OK Although there is not much to do in Norman Oklahoma BUT thye have a solid football tradition
Texas Tech. My brother went there and said they always provide hookers for the players who need them
Notre Dame Who would NOT want to be part of that tradition ? ..... plus they have a great campus and great recognition.
