Who do you think are some underachievers thatneed to have their butts slapped into gear?
I'm sure some would say the TAMU Aggies, winning would do wonders for their balance sheet and they were quite good in the 90s.
UCLA is a bad culprit. Not only are they in one of the recruiting hotbeds of the country, they are a huge school with great tradition. Yea yea I know, USC but there was a time when both those schools ruled the West. The New Pac-12 South won't be a murderer's row, either. They gotta get it going.
Clemson is obvious in the ACC. Even with the FSU dominance, can't believe they haven't competed.
The Big East as a WHOLE hasn't been up to snuff, but my main bones to pick are with PITT and Rutgers. Pitt is in too good of a recruiting area and too good of a pedigree to not lord over that conference. Rutgers has a lock on the decent talent of New Jersey yet they've done NOTHING substantial since the Ray Rice heyday. They could actually get part of New York interested in football if they'd actually win their conference ONCE.

Definitely agree about North Carolina! There are good facilities, good talent and yet they fall short producing on the field every year not even counting Butch Davis and all his crooked troubles with the NCAA. It's frustrating being a UNC fan!
Gotta give that some time. UVA will do well but it takes time.
Dunno bout Houston. Sure I read about the Bill Yeoman years but that was when they were in a Big Time conference. Maybe if they really tried hard they could pull a TCU.
North Carolina will be interesting to watch. The Carolinas have been putting out a LOT of good players in the past 15 years and not all of them can go to Clemson and S.Car. UNC can still do some damage on the field. It just depends on...
1. How bad the NCAA sanctions are
2. How big of stick in the muds the AD and BOT will be in making their next head coaching choice. They will probably need someone like Mike London, Tom O'Brien or Troy Calhoun (I mean in personality and background) because that's just what they need.
The two Arizona schools are interesting......I know about ASU under Kush but they haven't been the same force since entering the PAC (They were the Boise State of the 60s!).
Arizona would be CRAZY to get rid of Mike Stoops, he needs to rebuild those lines in the trenches quickly though.

Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Florida State are all finally getting back to being good like they used to.
Texas A&M was never that good overall. If you are referring to the 10 year period ('84-'94),that decade was with a big *....the Jackie Sherrill FedEx years. And they still never wound up in the top 5. They haven't played for a national championship since Roosevelt was preparing for WWII.
Texas at Austin has been underachieving with Mack Brown, IMO. That's mainly due to very poor coaching from some of the assistants. At least last year's fluke 5-7 season resulted in a much needed housecleaning of deadwood.

Most big schools have to split their in-state recruiting with 1 other major-conference school.
UNC must compete with 3 other schools, and the state of North Carolina does not produce all that many great football players to begin with. In terms of football talent it is comparable to South Carolina, which has half the number of schools, half the population, and a similar volume of high school talent.
Schools like LSU and Georgia, on the other hand, have a tremendous amount of in-state talent to themselves; LSU has no comparable in-state rival, and Georgia is splitting an extremely talented state with just Georgia Tech.
