This Austinite and very respected writer (Kurt Bohls) seems to think that the Sooners, not the Horns with all the money and perceived influence, is the team that's gonna call the final shots and start the domino effect.
Hopefully, Oklahoma/Tech/Oklahoma State/Texas can stay together. I would like to keep the geographical/cultural tie of the Big 12 South together.
I think Mr. Bohls is spot on with that analysis. Even though I certainly want the Big 12 south teams to stay together, if Texas doesn't accept a Pac deal, Texas Tech doesn't get invited. Unfortunately, I have to agree with Bohls on that point. If they can't tap into the Texas market and OU and Ok State decide to go west, like he said, they will invite other teams that will bring in new TV markets, like Kansas and Missouri. I certainly hope that Texas will decide to join OU if they decide to go to the Pac. In a way it should make a lot of sense from their perspective. From the article: "The Longhorn Network gets folded into the Pac-16 as a downsized regional network, joining the six regional networks that already exist within the conference". The Longhorns would have to be insane not to take that deal if it's offered. Frankly, they should have worked that stuff out with the Pac commish last year. Going independent is risky, even for Texas. If they have another loosing season or two they could be in very bad shape in terms of TV sets being tuned into their games. If it's offered again, it would be very wise for UT to head out west to the Pac. Like Bohls said, it will be very interesting to see if OU decides to make the next bold move.
Why the Pac-12 and not the Big 10? Geographically it makes more sense. As a Big 10 fan, I could care less about Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Maryland. I already watch many Big 12 games and watched SWC and big 8 games.

As a big 10 fan, I am equally indifferent to Oklahoma as I am to the teams on the east coast. Give me Notre Dame, and give me Missouri. Then knock it off.
