Paterno issued the following statement on his firing:

"I am disappointed with the Board of Trustees' decision, but I have to accept it.

A tragedy occurred, and we all have to have patience to let the legal process proceed. I appreciate the outpouring of support but want to emphasize that everyone should remain calm and please respect the university, its property and all that we value.

I have been incredibly blessed to spend my entire career working with people I love. I am grateful beyond words to all of the coaches, players and staff who have been a part of this program. And to all of our fans and supporters, my family and I will be forever in your debt."

As a long time fan of Joe Pa....I am outraged over this entire scandal. I don't understand how that GA could leave the building while a child was being raped. He should go to prison also for not immediatly stopping the abuse.

It's sad that JoePa's career is ending over something like this. He should have done more to protect those children. He failed those kids as well. The President of PSU deserved to be fired as well. All these "responsible" adults failed these kids.

I don't get it. Was the accused coach gay or just a Child Molester?

Neither. He's a pedophile.

That riot was the single-most dumbest protest ever, beating out the riots in Vancouver after the Canucks lost in the Stanley Cup finals last June.
I know the students love him there, but geez read the indictment, the kids are making themselves look like morons. However, one kid actually did have some brains, one of the students went on live TV, and agreed with the decision. Hopefully ESPN, who did the interview gave that student safe shelter from a potential beating by the mob.

Also, I have to wonder why Mike Mcquery (the GA who witnessed one the rapes) is actually still a coach on the staff as of now (2:08 on Thursday morning). IMO, he should've been fired before JoePa did. He witnessed the attack, he had a chance to stop it, and he did nothing!! Tell me why he's still employed as an assistant coach??

I agree 100% with this!! He needs to be fired also! Him and Sandusky can be cell mates in prison.

Child Molesters are usually not gay-it's usually that they see potental victims-they don't look at things as "oh I like boys because I'm gay" they see every child as a victim..and who is easier...
