I don't really blame Bama or even the voters for any of this...after Bama lost you had several teams that had an opportunity to take over, and all of them managed to blow it in one way or another. I think most years, someone would have stepped up, because that's usually what happens as the early contenders drop off over the course of the season. This time no one did.

I don't think it will really hurt anything so long as it doesn't become a regular occurrence.

Great thread. I love seeing so much hate, crying, and broken dreams from all over the country in one place.

Exactly. Roll Tide.

Alabama needs this more than LSU, because they're cocky, they naturally believe they're going to win. If LSU loses, well, it's meant to be: the Tide are like the NY Yankees of the SEC. We're like the Boston Red Sox. Everyone always makes fun of LSU. Keep laughing. Keep cracking open some Coors Light and laughing about how we couldn't beat Bama at home for 31 years. It just motivates us. I don't know if this is the year that we finally break out of our Bama curse; I don't know if this is our 2004 ALCS. But one of these years, it's gonna happen in a big way.

Sound like a Sooner Fan! (I can say this cause I am one.)

Makes sense, there are a lot of similarities between Bammer and Oklahoma. (small states, tradition-laden, etc.)

The fact is that Alabama doesn't deserve to be in the NC game. Most of America (except SEC homers and ESPN) agrees with me. No one is "whining" we are just point out the stupidity of having Alabama play LSU when OSU beats Alabama in almost every statistical category (including strength of schedule).
I'm not an SEC homer and I think Alabama should be playing for the title. The way I see it, Alabama was No. 2 and lost to No. 1 in a close game. OSU was No. 2 and lost to an unranked team. Alabama playing for the title makes sense to me. I don't see how you can justify putting OSU in the title game over Alabama when OSU lost to a lousy team and Alabama lost to the top-ranked team.

OSU beat better teams. I don't see why people are using losses to justify Bama.

Listen the BCS is screwy and stupid but it's the system we have.

Alabama is a good (and popular) team and they played the system as per the rules.

If you don't like it don't watch it.

Alabama didn't play a tough schedule-- only tough teams they had were Arkansas and LSU. Alabama lost at home to LSU-- why do you think a rematch will be any different?

Also, don't forget-- OSU lost in double overtime in Ames, Iowa. And Iowa State is a bowl qualified team that put 44 points on Texas Tech this year. They really aren't that lousy... OSU also just crushed the Sooner defense-- and the Sooners have a very good defense. I like OSU's chances against LSU much more than I like Alabama's.

This year the BCS system got it wrong. Lets home next year it works out better.

So you actually think it makes sense to put a team in the BCS Title game that lost to an unranked opponent over a team whose only loss came at the hands of the No. 1 team in the country? I'm sorry, but that's just pure hating. OSU should have pounded the snot out of Iowa State and then we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. Plain and simple. You have to beat the good teams as well as the sorry teams. If OSU choked against Iowa State, who's to say that they wouldn't choke against LSU on the biggest stage of all?

And you're acting like Alabama lost 27-13 against LSU. LSU's victory was not decisive. I didn't watch the game, but I read that Alabama missed a few field goals that would have changed the game. So there is very good reason to believe that the result this time might be different.

Because OSU lost to a sucky team. It would be one thing if they lost to a Top 15 opponent, but Iowa State was not even ranked. Good teams are supposed to beat the hell out of sorry teams. If you can't beat the sorry teams, then you have no business playing for the Championship. If the tables were turned, and Alabama lost to an unranked team but then got to play for the Title, everyone would be screaming murder.

I'm an OSU fan but I have to call it like I see it...OSU didn't play well in their loss. They blew a lead, missed a chance to win it at the end, then turned it over during the second overtime. And Iowa State was actually having some pretty good success in slowing them down.

I think if Iowa State had beaten Oklahoma the following week OSU would have pulled past Bama. But they lost big, and that was probably the last shot the Cowboys had at making it in.
