There should be a playoff. This could be done with money just like in the bowls. Start with the top 32 teams the first playoff week. The second week you have 16. The third week you have 8. The fourth week you have 4 and the fifth week you have the top two playing for your national championship. It's that easy. The regular season will be done just after Thanksgiving and five weeks later would not have this wrapping up any later than it already is. The playoff games could be scheduled at traditional bowl sites and rotated every year if need be.
Everyone who is against the current system should boycott watching, otherwise you are just contributing to the problem.

Among the many flaws of the BCS is the fact that it also hides that the polls are screwed up in the first place!

OK, let's see. SEC, ACC, Big East, B1G Ten, Big 12, Pac 12. Take the conference winners and the 2 top rated conference champs get a bye. The 1-6 ranking is determined by the "polls". Then you have 3-6 play. The the 2 winning teams play the 2 teams that got a bye. Then you have the championship game. Use the "big bowls" for the playoffs and rotate the championship game. Probably will still be able to slot teams to bowls with at least one conference tie in to keep some tradition alive. The "lesser" bowls still get their games and conferences still get their $$. If a team like Houston or Boise State doesn't like getting shut out of the championship process, join a conference that has a tie-in.

Boise State's about to join the Big East, which is a shame. They should either join the Big 12 or the Pac 12+. See, by going across country and playing in the Big East that just fuels the detractors who say that BSU is ducking opponents and cherry-picking their schedules. They know that the Big East will probably never be a strong conference. Sure WVU might be strong one year, and Miami another, but on a regular basis, BSU will be competitive. They know that wouldn't the the case if they joined the Pac 12 or Big 12, 'cause then they'd be competing for similar recruits. It's hard to feel sorry for BSU, that being the case.

It's not like Boise State gets to choose which big conference they will join--they are smart to strike while the iron is hot and join the Big East.

Pac 12 would never in a million years take Boise State. They are extremely picky about their membership, probably the pickiest of all the conferences other than maybe the Big 10.

Yeah, I thought the Pac 12 had already said in the past that Boise State didnt meet their standards, credentials, or whatever was/is the requirement for membership.

Which is kind of hilarious, because schools like Arizona State have been a member of the PAC for over 30 years (although I'm a Northern Arizona grad so technically an ASU degree has much more value than mine).

But yes, the PAC-12 said they would not take Boise State because they do not meet their academic standards.

People often forget that while the Big Ten is primarily known for its (admittedly crappy) football teams, it was a research alliance first and foremost and typically doesn't accept new members unless that school is a member of the American Association of Universities and is willing to participate in multi-university research projects. Bear in mind that Nebraska lost its AAU status after it joined the B1G.
