After the dust has seemingly cleared - for the most part - from realignment it is interesting to go back and look at some of the early theories and predictions by "experts"
The top three in "Added Revenue" (after the unrealistic candidate of Texas) are now set to be in the conference, and everyone has come to understand that revenue is the #1, and often only, factor in candidate selection.

The poll that the writer posted shows that Sooner Fans are over 60% against the notion that the Sooners would go to the B1G. Give us two more teams, the Big 12 South back, and a championship game. Let's get it done.

My cousin goes to school at Maryland and he said he doesn't know of anyone who is happy, or at least pleased with the move out of the ACC. Maryland is within a reasonable drive of NC State, Wake Forest, UNC, Duke, V Tech and UVA. Now only Penn State and Rutgers will be within that same drive distance.

Yeah I have heard the same thing from MD fans and athletes too. It's really tragic for the university, but it will probably be forgotten just a few years from now.

That's what I thought too...there was almost no publicity about the move, and now that you say it was done for that reason it does makes sense. Shady, but smart.
After the GoR, the old Big XII South teams are headed either to the PAC in a pod format or the SEC West in some configuration. The Big XII's only option is to try and go to 14 with BYU/UNLV in the West and Cincy/Connecticut in the East to give WV some regional partners.
Yes, the Big XII Brass is going to have to lower standards to get this thing done. There's just no other options at this point....the Big XII leadership got outmaneuvered and was reactive rather than proactive pretty much at every point the last three years. I don't know anyone in the Big XII that is happy with the Big XII leadership with the exception of the interim stay of Chuck Neinas = I want him back!

That’s not too shabby of a conference....well, it's kinda shabby but it would have to suffice. You’ve got decent markets/TV sets and a decent balance of super-powers (Oklahoma/Tejas), mid-level elites (Okie State, WV, TCU, K-State, BYU), mid-level solid (Cincy, UCONN, Tech, Baylor, Iowa State), and a few cupcakes (Kansas, UNLV).
Also, to go to 16, the Big XII could look at getting the Florida market with USF/UCF in a package deal. It is a major downgrade, but at this point, the Big XII is going to have to make some moves in the next couple of years or OU/Texas will be looking West again, or OU/Okie State possibly to the SEC (not the B1G = doesn’t have the academics and likely never will).
If the Big XII goes to 16 with the teams listed above the divisional alignments would be as follows:

That sounds like a bad plan. 16 teams is too many. Unless they move to a 10 game conference schedule, you're going to see Kansas State play Texas, or Oklahoma once every 4 years, aside from a potential title game match up.
All the Big 12 needs is to add 2 more teams and get to 12 and have a title game again.

That ship has sailed. They gotta get on board and start adding some teams, or the Big XII will simply be gobbled up in a few years after the GoR.
I don't want to be a part of another conference. Not fair to Oklahoma/Texas. They're too big and important to get that kind of treatment.

Sounds like it would be a major stretch because of odd traditions/geography (West Virginia anyone?) but if the money is good I guess I could *possibly* see it happening.
Seems unlikely with the Grant of Rights and $$$ they'd have to shell out. Especially Clemson.
