The Big Ten choose balance over geography to set up its two divisions. The logic was simple: split the power schools and keep balance: Penn State and Ohio State go one direction and Michigan and Nebraska the other. Leaders and Legends. Pure and simple.

But it didn't work out that way, did it? Jerry Sandusky threw a monkey's wrench into the machinery. Penn State is taken out of the equation where it will remain for the foreseeable future. I don't expect the Nitany Lions to be among the elite in college football even in 8 or 9 years.

Added to the sad story in State College, I'm not sure the B10 paradigm worked even without the PSU scandal. The notion of 4 powers is bit suspect. Things change. Does anyone seriously think that Wisconsin and MSU are not going to conference powerhouses for years to come?

Wouldn't this be a good time to undo the damage done already and divide the conference geographically which, BTW, would also be addressing the issue of balance. This is the way it was supposed to look in the first place, wasn't it:

East: PSU, OSU, U-M, MSU, IU, Purdue
West: Wis, Nw, Ill, Ia, Min, Neb

Ohio State-Michigan becomes the divisional match up it always should have been. As does Illini-NU. Wisconsin ends up with the folks it wants: Minnesota and Iowa.

The B10 needs a rearranged divisional set up.....almost as much as it needs a new logo.

I would like those divisions. I think Nebraska-Wisconsin has the potential to be a fantastic rivalry if they played every season.
