Gene Chizik will surely find himself on the hotseat now that the Tigers/WarEagles are a depressing 0-2, losing to mediocre rivals Clemson and Miss. St.

Auburn doesn't take too well to a coaching staff who cannot produce. 0-2 is unacceptable by AU standards; coach Tuberville got run outta town on a rail for less.

So will it be midseason, or at the end that Chizik gets his walking papers? Or will they give him another year or so.

I think it's rather unacceptable for a coach to come in, win a title with the last coach's players, and then fail to build on that national championship success.

The #12 ranked team in the nation is considered mediocre?

Yes, by my arbitrary standards.

Nah. I think everybody in the Auburn nation knows that:

1) The team is very, very young. Freshmen and sophomores abound in the starting lineups.

2) We replaced an abominable DC with someone who is a stud. But the guy is not a miracle worker. He needs time.

3) The losses to graduation after the 2010 was brutal. Something like 18 starters graduated all at the same time. And Tuberville's recruiting in 2008 had pretty much left the cupboard bare.

While we won't be happy with a tough season, I don't think anybody really expected a great one. We're pretty much looking ahead.

It's just been my experience, if memory serves me correctly, that AU has been notorious for exiting coaches who didn't produce right away--and getting rid of coaches who had proven records of success, namely Tuberville and Bowden.

Hell, that's all SEC schools. Bowden had the program in a death spiral and Tuberville had fallen pretty much off the wagon as far as recruiting is concerned, too.

Well, in any event, I think it's safe to say that the honeymoon for Chizik is over.

Clemson may be mediocre by SEC standards, but don't forget they very nearly defeated Auburn three times in three seasons.

The matchup this season was easier to determine which team was better prepared.

He's accomplished too much to be on the hot seat this soon IMO. Maybe going into next season if they have an absolute collapse and don't even make a bowl game. I would be shocked if he was let go after this season. Would seem premature and unjust for any reason other then some kinda scandal.

Even last year; Auburn finished with 8 wins. They won their bowl game and beat South Carolina and Florida in SEC play. A respectable 4-4 finish in conference.

Maybe not a great season coming off a National Championship season; but 2011 was hardly a disaster.

Still a lot of football to be played this year; and they lost to two pretty good teams.
