It's funny too because pre-Spurrier, Florida was a middle of the pack mediocre SEC team that never won a SEC championship.

Well my experience as a decade+ long fan of Notre Dame is not that at all. Most of the attention we get from the media is "Notre Dame is overrated and no team gets more undeserved hype and attention than Notre Dame." "Notre Dame won't win and their annoying fans will shut up after they lose." That's typically what I hear. We get a lot of attention because we have a national fanbase and even during a 3-9 season NBC didn't see a dip in the ratings during the ND games. Do we get more attention (good and bad) than we deserve? Maybe but we're like the Cowboys or the Yankees: an iconic team that has a national (perhaps international) fanbase.
Part of my beef with UGA fans however is because they don't even have a historic well of success to point back to. At no point in UGA's history have they ever had a dynasty anywhere near approaching that of Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, or even more recently Florida. Even when those historic teams are losing at least they have their legends and storied history to fall back to justify any level of arrogance. UGA doesn't even have that! UGA doesn't have the national fanbase that ND has, they don't have a recent history of winning and they don't have a legacy of winning. The hype and love they get is completely baffling.
As for Florida being a middle of the road team two decades+ ago well...before Alabama got Bear Bryant they sucked...before the Patriots got Bill Belichick and Tom Brady they sucked...the Steelers sucked before Chuck Knoll... I mean really the fact that a team used to suck before they got the right coach is less than irrelevant.
Also, page me when a ND fan gets on here and makes a thread about them being the most complete team and Oregon or Alabama being frauds. Does ND have delusional fans? Hell yeah they do every team does. However in most fanbases they are the exception, but in UGA's fanbase they are the rule and any levelheaded fans they have are an exception. This thread and my issue are less about media coverage, no team can control that, but more about the fanbase itself.
